The others i have seen always try to tug at heart strings with really only the character of tiny Tim and his problems while in this version Tiny Tim is
...
a side plot. In more modern versions Tiny Tim becomes the focal point because the makers use the cheap trick and our sympathy for a kid and his death to grab sentiment and usually miss the terror Scrooge sees in his own life and future. Here we see Scrooge foresee his own cold death as a result of his own greed. In subsequent versions Scrooge only changes because our sentiments over minor characters with some garish ghouls flying about whereas here the ghouls are merely in his dreams and not seen for the most part with the exception of xmas present, but some things never change and the money changers are still money changers. They toss out a few crumbs when those receiving are required to fill out endless piles of paperwork to certify they are indeed in need and then it;s only selective giving well measured to make damned sure not to much is given and is ONLY given if there is a tax write off so that the giving is only given by society as a whole and never from anyones pocket as to never make the slightest dent in their own personal wealth and yet still make them appear as wonderful benevolent people so they never have to be touched by us commoners filth.
These lessons are never really learned, but marketed for profit by the money changers.. It's one reason I refuse to engage in the phony sentimentality of xmas and the phony marketing of phony "giving" which has become only the exchange of wealth among the wealthy. I don't recall any real giving unless there is a marketing ploy attached along with a news report of someones false benevolence.
See how wonderful i am for handing out a few crumbs? Oh what wonderful me.. THAT'S the way it is in todays world..Giving is never done without compensation or advertising ones own marketability.

this film shows more character than the other scrooge films that i have seen and i have seen a few others, and the artistic effort that went into it was
...
also striving for something quite out of the ordinary.
i can't associate the budget that was allowed on this film, but it uses quite a different story line than is shown on tv.
more terrifying than others, this is not a typical christmas eve film, more a mood piece and more than able to accomplish the authors intent.
highly reccomended.
